OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

About OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive, high-resolution imaging test used to evaluate the retina and optic nerve. It provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retinal layers, enabling early detection and monitoring of conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular edema, and glaucoma.

OCT plays a crucial role in diagnosing retinal diseases at an early stage and guiding precise treatment planning.

Procedure

The OCT scan is a quick and painless diagnostic test. The patient is asked to sit comfortably and focus on a target light inside the machine. The device uses light waves to capture detailed images of the retina without touching the eye.

The procedure typically takes only a few minutes per eye. In some cases, pupil-dilating drops may be used for better visualization.

Results are immediately available for evaluation and treatment planning.
